On 17 June 2026, Ms. Panalee Choosri, Chargé d’Affaires a.i. of the Royal Thai Embassy in Bucharest, participated as a guest speaker at “Brands Talks. Identity and Culture. Asian Creativity”, organized by The Alternative School in Bucharest. On this occasion, Ms. Panalee delivered a presentation on the eight styles of Thai National Dress (Chud Thai Phra Rajaniyom). She highlighted their historical background and cultural significance, noting that Her Majesty Queen Sirikit The Queen Mother initiated extensive research into traditional Thai women's attire from different historical periods for use during the official State Visits of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej The Great to the United States and Europe in 1960. The initiative aimed to preserve and promote Thailand’s artistic and handicraft traditions and to enhance international recognition of Thai cultural heritage.

 

Ms. Panalee also provided information on Thailand’s nomination of “Chud Thai: The Knowledge, Craftsmanship and Practices of the Thai National Costume” for inscription on UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, highlighting the cultural value of Chud Thai as a living heritage that embodies traditional knowledge, craftsmanship, and cultural practices passed down through generations.

 

The presentation formed part of Thailand’s efforts to promote Thai national dress as a cultural asset and a source of creative economic value. It also helped raise awareness of the role of cultural heritage in safeguarding traditional knowledge and craftsmanship, strengthening cultural identity, and supporting sustainable cultural development.
