Bună Ziua!

It is a tremendous honour that His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn of Thailand has graciously appointed me, Mr. Phuchphop MONGKOLNAVIN, as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Thailand to Romania. It is also a great privilege that I was able to present my credentials to H.E. Mr. Nicuşor Dan, President of Romania on 4 September 2026.

Thailand and Romania have enjoyed more than half a century of diplomatic relations. Our collaborations cover many areas, ranging from economic, political to cultural ties. With such nexus, I am hopeful that throughout my tenure as the Thai ambassador to Romania such ties will expand even more. It is, therefore, my primary aim to make sure that the Thais and our Romanian friends get to know each other more, appreciate each other’s cultures and enjoy each other’s company. Both our countries do have similar values, especially in terms of family value, the desire for democracy, respect for the rules of law and economic prosperity. We both also aspire to become members of the OECD, a task that we both could achieve in the near future. So, there is much room for our collaboration to grow.

In terms of tourism, Thailand welcomes Romanian tourists to our lovely country and appreciate the increasing number of tourists who have visited Thailand. Last year, 2025, nearly 60,000 Romanian tourists visited Thailand, and nearly 40,000 Romanians have already visited Thailand this year. I am sure that Thais who live here in Romania also feel warmly welcomed, and many more Thai tourists are looking forward to coming to Romania and exploring your beautiful country and deep-rooted cultural heritage. I myself also look forward to making many connections with our Romanian friends and colleagues, and hope to visit as many parts of Romania as possible.

Additionally, I will work on improving our exchanges in the fields of science and technology, innovation, medical and wellness industries as well as education and cybersecurity, as there is great potential for collaboration and we can learn from each other’s expertise in those areas. Several Thai educational institutions have already signed MOUs with their Romanian counterparts. I hope more will follow suit.

As a member of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations or ASEAN, Thailand is pleased that Romania has now become our high contracting party to the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia (TAC). Such link will help bring Romania closer to ASEAN and its members, and build up political and economic partnership with them.

In closing, I am excited to discharge my ambassadorial assignment here in Romania and will do my best to foster the already good relations between our two countries and peoples, and look forward to further strengthening and advancing them in the future.
